Who are they?

I didn't identify who was seated around my table in one of the pictures. They are Jim, Todd, Chris, Ashley (Tims' girlfriend), Tim, Marissa, Cyndi & Mary. Jon, Michael and Matthew were sucked into a copmputer game in the living room. Jenna was pretty excited that school was NOT cancelled today! (What a difference a few years makes.)

SNOW DAY!

It's been at least a decade since we've had a snow storm like we had yesterday! We had everything ready for our monthly Sunday dinner with the kids when we realized how bad the roads were just trying to get home from church. Jim called everyone to cancel, but they wouldn't hear of it! So Jim and Jon got busy and cleared the driveway, (again. They had done it the night before.) Fifteen people braved the roads to gather for Taco soup and corn bread!

Jenna wasn't able to join us. She was staying with the kids she nanny's for while the parents were out of town. She called me at 6:45 this morning. "They cancelled school!", she moaned. She was so looking forward to the boys all going to school so she could have a day with the baby! That's what snow days are all about Jenna!

SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO

Jim and I have two trips that we are taking soon. We leave on February 1st for Sacramento to meet our newest grandchild, Jillian Leonhardt and visit with her family. She is being blessed on Sunday the 3rd, so we didn't want to miss that!

The second trip is the end of May. Our son Jon graduates from medical school from Des Moines University on the 24th. He persuaded us to take a few extra days and visit some Church History sites that are nearby. We are going to spend two days in Nauvoo and Carthage before returning to Des Moines. We are both pretty excited about this trip because we usually don't go anywhere unless it involves visiting one of our kids!

What do I do everyday?

Being home all day with nobody around but my two faithful buddies Wrinkles and Snickers can be rather boring. I have learned through the years how to keep myself occupied! I do all the cooking, most of the dishes and some of the house cleaning. I have a wonderful husband who takes care of the floors and toilets and some laundry. But you can't do that kind of stuff all day!

I have loved quilting for many years now and was most worried after I had my stroke that I wouldn't be able to do it anymore because my stroke affected my right side. One night I had a dream about how I could use the sewing machine with my left hand and foot and I have been sewing ever since. To date I have made about 25 quilts! I'm slow, but I get the job done. I belong to two quilt groups that meet every month.

My second love is Family History. I have been involved in it since the early 70's. It was hard to do back then....lots of letter writing and trips to the Family History Center to read films. The internet has made things so much easier. I have been searching in the 1600's lately. I love their names: Patience, Deliverance, Hopestill, Thankful, Mercy. I wish I had pictures and knew more about their lives.

I used to say that you couldn't quilt and scrapbook in the same lifetime. I really believed that! But I am living proof that you can! I joined a scrapbook club that meets once a month that is taught by a very gifted woman who is a graphic artist. We make 4 pages and a card at every class. I have made an album for myself, my husband, and my two sons, Jason & Brian. I have lots of ideas in my head about future albums and spend lots of time sorting my mountains of pictures!

I go to my local CURVES three times a week. I have been going almost three years now. People ask me if it is helping me. I know I am stronger. My granddaughter Breanna was born right after I started going to CURVES. She weighed almost 7 pounds and I couldn't pick her up. I would have to sit down and have someone bring her to me. Now she weighs almost 30 pounds and I can pick her up!

I also belong to a Red Hat group. My mother started a chapter here in Spokane and she invited me to be a part of the group. Back then I was a "Pink Hatter" because I wasn't 50 yet! In March of 2004 I had my 'Reduation' and was officially a member of the Red Hat Society. We have outings once a month and do lots of different things. My aunt Marge is a part of the group too! I look forward to seeing these women every month.

The biggest thing I have done for myself in 2008 is joining Weight Watchers online. To date I have lost 11 pounds. I love the online program. My son-in-law Chris started before the holidays and showed me how the online program worked. He inspired me to do it, so I signed up on January 1st.

I truly do have a wonderful, full life!

I'M BLOGGING!

I attended an Enrichment class last evening at the home of Lyndsay Wynia, a sister in our ward. She taught us how to create a blog and all the amazing things we could do with it! I decided to give it a try. I used to be an avid journaler, but since my stroke I have given that up. My purpose here is to be able to share pictures, thoughts, and experiences with my children and grandchildren who are in California and right here in Washington. I'm inviting friends to visit my blog too!
